How long does it take for recovery from breast augmentation surgery?
There is no clear-cut, black and white, standard answer to this question. Every person is different therefore every patient is different in how their body heals and what type of surgery she has undergone. Therefore, your plastic surgeon will be the best person to inform you about the expectations you should have for surgery as only they would know your situation and the surgery you have undergone. The best thing for you to minimize your recovery time is to follow strictly to the orders and instructions of your breast augmentation plastic surgeon.
Your recovery time largely depends on the quality and elasticity of your skin. The recovery time can be shortened if you follow the following instructions.
Before your breast augmentation surgery, there are certain things you must stock up on. This includes ice packs, medications, water, snacks and a post-surgical bra. Thereafter, make sure there is a place in the room of your house for you to recover, henceforth known as the recovery room. Prepare this room by stocking it up with all the abovementioned items. In the room, bring out fluffy and soft pillows and put them on your bed so as to make you feel comfortable. These pillows can also be used to elevate your torso and to prevent any more unnecessary swelling. There must always be snacks and water within arm’s reach of your bed. The anaesthesia that was injected into your blood stream will cause stomach discomfort or nausea. These symptoms can be made better by eating snacks and water. After your surgery, your surgeon will probably prescribe some medications for you. Keep these medications near your bed after your breast augmentation surgery so you can take them regularly.
During the time of your recovery, friends and family are the most important people around. They will be the ones who will provide you with loving comfort, care and food every time you are hungry. They are especially helpful if you have children. While undergoing recovery, do ask your closed ones to care for your children, as you will need maximum rest and minimum movement for the initial stages of post-surgery recovery. To keep you occupied during this resting period, you can rent movies to entertain you.
After surgery and the wearing effects of the painkillers, your body will inevitably feel sore and uncomfortable. It is therefore vital that you get as much as possible so that a speedy recovery can be achieved. Prepare and store many ice packs to manage swelling and reduce pain. As your hands will have difficulty moving and lifting over your head, it is advisable for you to purchase comfortable over-sized button down shirts so that changing of clothes will be convenient. Once the pain wears off, do the self-massage that your surgeon would have taught you so that you can prevent encapsulation or hardening of the scar tissue.
Always wear your post-surgical bra until your next visit to your surgeon. Your surgeon will check on your incisions and tell you when your recovery is expected to end. Then will he inform you when to stop using the bra. You may also be prescribed breast creams for recovery.
Post-operative fever is an indication of infection, hence do keep an eye on your body temperature at all times so that action can be taken as soon as possible.
